One thing worth knowing before you read the list: the amount of snow a roof carries in this valley depends far more on elevation than on which town the address is in. The core of the service area. Bozeman sits at roughly 4,800 feet with the Bridger Range to the northeast and the Gallatin Range to the south. The city's own design criteria set a ground snow load of 46 psf and classify weathering as Severe. Older neighbourhoods near downtown — Cooper Park, the Northeast historic district — generate a disproportionate share of ice dam calls, while the post-1990 subdivisions on the edges more often call about drifting and flat-roof accumulation.
Northeast of town up Bridger Canyon Road toward Bridger Bowl, including the residential pockets around Kelly Canyon and Jackson Creek. This is where the elevation effect becomes dramatic: the Bozeman 12 NE measuring station at 5,950 feet carries a design ground snow load of 95.7 psf, against 42.3 psf at the MSU station in town. Roofs up here work considerably harder than roofs on the valley floor.
Northwest and west of Bozeman on the valley floor. Belgrade Airport's design ground snow load is 33.3 psf at 4,427 feet — noticeably lighter than in town, and lighter again out toward Manhattan. Fast-growing areas with a lot of newer construction, which means more low-slope and complex roof geometry than the older housing stock in Bozeman proper.
South of Four Corners where the valley narrows toward the Gallatin Canyon. A mix of older valley properties and newer builds on larger parcels, with outbuildings, shops and barns that are often framed to a different standard than the house and are worth keeping an eye on in a heavy winter.
About 45 miles southwest through the Gallatin Canyon, and a genuinely different snow environment — high elevation, heavy accumulation, and a lot of large roofs on properties that are empty for stretches of the winter. Scheduled and storm-triggered arrangements make more sense here than one-off calls, and the drive means scheduling matters. Worth calling early in the season.
The lower, drier end of the valley to the northwest. The Manhattan station's design ground snow load is 20.7 psf and Trident's is 20.5 psf, roughly half the figure in Bozeman — these are the lightest-snow parts of the service area. Agricultural buildings, shops and older farmhouses are the common calls rather than suburban houses.
East over Bozeman Pass in Park County. Livingston Mission Field carries a design ground snow load of 33.9 psf at 4,653 feet. Livingston is known for wind as much as snow, and wind is what builds drifts — the roofs that need attention here are usually the ones with a spot that loads up the same way every year.
